Film on Separation of Native Families, Seattle
Tues March 10, 7 pm, at Centilia Cultural Center, 1660 S Roberto Maestas Festival St, Seattle, 98144; Meaningful Movies Beacon Hill presents a free screening of the documentary, Dawnland. The U.S. had an official policy to steal Wabanaki children from their homes and place them with white families so they could learn to "be white". Children faced devastating harm from the adults attempting to remove and replace their culture. In Maine, the first Truth and Reconciliation Committee was formed. Dawland follows the committee as it travels to the Wabanaki community to understand the truth and witness their healing. Free to the public. Donations appreciated to cover costs.
