Youth in Danger: Police Brutality & the School to Prison Pipeline
Join WWFOR’s 2013 Peace Activist Trainees for a March & Rally on Tuesday July 30 at 4 pm, beginning at Garfield High School (400 23rd Ave in Seattle). We will march to the King County Juvenile Detention Center. Take a stand against police brutality and the school to prison pipeline. HelpĀ spread awareness and protest police brutality and the targeting and criminalization of youth, as well as corrupt school systems.
For too long youth have been targeted by police and the criminal justice system. The armed forces in our own cities are stereotyping, racially profiling, and are quick to make assumptions. The school systems have developed a vicious pipeline of practically sending students to prison from school. They discourage students and leave them behind rather than helping them develop the intellectual as well as community value our generation needs.
The School to Prison Pipeline is a system in which school districts are increasing standardized tests, cutting budgets at low test score schools, cutting programs that better the students from low income areas, investing in police authority within schools rather than more counselors, and spending millions of dollars on building more and more detention centers and prisons instead of using the money for education and social services.
As the youth in the 2013 Peace Activist Trainee Program, we invite our friends, family, and all who wish to stand up against the unaccountability the police are obtaining, and the schools that are pushing students down the wrong path, to join us at 4:00pm July 30th at Garfield High School in the front parking lot, and will march to the King County Juvenile Detention Center where we will have a rally with some guest speakers.
