Abhinav Gadwal
Mental Health Awareness for Teens
Abhinav Gadwal is 14 years old and lives in Frisco, Texas, where he is starting high school. He applied to the MYPF program hoping to learn skills that will help him make a positive difference in his community. He said, “I want to understand how to resolve conflicts peacefully, become a better leader, and communicate effectively. I’m excited about the opportunity to work on projects that address important issues like bullying, discrimination, or environmental sustainability. Overall, I’m looking forward to growing personally and contributing to creating a more peaceful and inclusive society.”
Abhinav is focused on promoting mental health awareness and support within schools this year. His goal is to establish a peer support program where students can openly discuss mental health challenges, seek guidance, and receive support from their peers in a safe and non-judgmental environment. This initiative is crucial as mental health issues among teenagers are on the rise, yet there is often a stigma associated with seeking help. By addressing this issue, Abhinav aims to foster a culture of openness and support, ultimately improving student well-being and reducing the stigma surrounding mental health.
Abhinav plans to collaborate closely with school administrators, counselors, and mental health professionals to develop and implement the peer support program. Additionally, he intends to organize workshops, presentations, and awareness campaigns to educate students and staff about the importance of mental health and the resources available to them. Through collaboration and advocacy, Abhinav believes he can make a significant impact on the mental health landscape in his high school.
