Seattle FOR Program on Emerging Movements
Sunday, Feb 21, 2021, 6:30-8 p.m., on Zoom. Seattle Fellowship of Reconciliation presents Beth Brunton on Emerging: More Earth Care, Less Warfare All are welcome! Free, an offering will be taken. Info 206-789-5565 or wwfor@wwfor.org Just in time to protect and sustain life on planet earth, a powerful, diverse, JUSTICE MOVEMENT IS EMERGING. From youth, indigenous, immigrants and allies, new leaders are rising to organize, march and vote for peace, racial, economic and environmental justice. From our experience as lifelong peace and justice advocates, let’s reflect on our stories, lessons, and strategies to share with newer organizers as we learn new ways from new friends how to build sustainable peace. Beth Brunton, a leader of Earth Care not Warfare, was a founder of the Central America Peace Campaign, Rainier Valley Neighbors for Peace and Justice, and other peace and justice organizations. As a teen, she studied as a Rotary Exchange student in Hiroshima, Japan. She earned a J.D. from UW, worked for the NW Labor & Employment law office. With a degree in Economics & Education, she taught at Rainier Beach and in alternative public schools. She learned much from her husband Dwight, a community organizer, then a county and state elected official. She’s delighted that her two children and four grandchildren live biking distance from their home.
