Olympia FOR Picnic And Nagasaki Commemoration
Monday, August 9, 6:30 to 8:30 pm, at West Bay Park ("Rotary Park"), 700 West Bay Drive NW, Olympia; Nagasaki commemoration. Sponsored by Olympia Fellowship of Reconciliation (FOR) and the Olympia Coalition to Abolish Nuclear Weapons. Picnic and luminaria launch in recognition of the attacks on Japan using the uranium and plutonium bombs. This will be an in person gathering, observing all Covid pandemic guidelines in effect. Accessible to Olympians. This event will consist of a picnic (bring your own, not a potluck - because of Covid), poetry reading and music, and decorating and floating lantern boats. Please consider this first opportunity for us to mingle in the open air and remember together what we are dedicated to doing: pave the way for world disarmament. West Bay Park is sparse, but natural there on the shore across from the marine terminal. Carpools would be a good idea, or even a shuttle from Tugboat Annie's parking area (it is on a Monday evening). Bus riders can get close on route #45 which goes to the West Side Food Co-Op. Come say hello to folks you haven't seen for more than a year, even if you don't stay until we send the memorials out on the evening tide around 8pm. info Jean Gant Delastrada gantj_750@msn.com or Fred Silsby fsilsby970@gmail.com or 360 252-0684
