Immigrant Justice Fundraiser for the Fair Fight Bond Fund
May 2, 2021 @ 6:00 pm
Sunday May 2, 6 pm, Jewish Coalition for Immigrant Justice NW’s 2021 fundraiser for the Fair Fight Bond Fund. Western Washington Fellowship of Reconciliation is a co-sponsor! Our purpose is to secure the release of immigrants from the NW Detention Center, officially renamed the NW ICE Processing Center in solidarity with the WA Immigrant Solidarity Network (WAISN). These efforts are more important than ever given the unsafe conditions faced by those who remain in detention during the pandemic.
Created as a deportation defense tool, the Fair Fight Bond Fund is a revolving community bond fund that gives immigrants an estimated 70% increased chance of winning their case by bonding them out of detention. The Fair Fight Bond Fund enables immigrants to pay bonds that range from $5,000-$35,000, so they can compile evidence to defend their cases and reunite with their families and community. To date, the Fair Fight Bond Fund has bonded out 40 people from 17 countries.
Our program includes a keynote by WA State Attorney General Bob Ferguson, music by Las Cafeteras, words about Sharing Our Harvest and Shavuot by Rabbi Seth Goldstein, the Jewish Coalition’s first Tzedek Justice Award, testimony about detention from someone who recently won asylum, a presentation about the Fair Fight Bond Fund by Coordinator Vanessa Reyes, as well as delicious food from immigrant-led Project Feast available to order.
Individual registration for this fundraiser starts at $36. Register at bit.ly/ShareOurHarvest donations welcome by check payable to WAISN ℅: Fair Fight Bond Fund and in the memo write Share Our Harvest. Please mail checks to 13838 1st Ave S., Burien WA 98168
