November 7, 2019 @ 4:00 pm - 5:00 pm
Nov 7, 4-5 pm, at Seattle University, Engineering, 312, Seattle
Witness for Peace: Public Presentation by Heidy Alachán, attorney, writer and activist with Movimiento Amplio por la Dignidad y la Justicia (MADJ)- Broad Movement for Dignity and Justice.
Based in Honduras, MADJ is a social and political movement committed to working against impunity and corruption while building alternatives rooted in transparency, dignity and respect to human rights and the environment. MADJ communities are on the frontlines protecting their natural resources from unlawful exploitation through resistance camps, legal battles and incredible grassroots organizing. MADJ has been active in resistance movements in Honduras in the context of the 2009 coup, the 2017-2018 post-electoral crisis and, most recently, in the national strike by teachers and healthcare workers.
Heidy Alachán forms part of the MADJ legal team representing the family of internationally renowned indigenous and environmental rights activist, Berta Cáceres, in their struggle for justice for her assassination.
