Program: Modern Monetary Theory

Is there a way to ensure everyone has their needs met, working people have a guarantee of a job, and we take care of the planet?  Can MMT help us do this?

Monday April 5, 2021 7pm – 8:30pm Pacific Time
Modern Monetary Theory (MMT) is not actually a theory rather it is a currency analysis of the Federal Reserve accounting system. Stephanie Kelton, the leading thinker and most visible public advocate of (MMT), dramatically changes our understanding of how we can best deal with crucial issues ranging from poverty and inequality to creating jobs, expanding health care coverage, climate change, and building resilient, climate supporting infrastructure. With its important new ways of understanding money, taxes, and the critical role of deficit spending, MMT redefines how to responsibly use our resources so that we can maximize our potential as a society.
In this engaging presentation, Vandana Whitney will explain the basics of MMT and Randy Mandell will talk about the implications for funding Medicare for All, a federal jobs guarantee and the Green New Deal.
