RECOGNIZING THE INHERENT RIGHTS OF THE SOUTHERN RESIDENT ORCAS

Tacoma, Olympia, and Seattle Chapters of Western Washington Fellowship of Reconciliation are happy to present Twila Slind, Organizer with Legal Rights for the Salish Sea (LRSS), a grassroots organization based in Gig Harbor, which has been educating the community and decision makers about the plight of the Southern Resident Orcas (SROs) and the health of the Salish Sea.

In 2023, LRSS partnered with the Northwest Animal Rights Network (NARN), drafting a bill that we hope will be introduced into legislation next year.

Twila’s talk will contain some history of the Rights of Nature movement, its relevance to environmental justice, and how FOR members can help make history through working to pass this bill to recognize the inherent rights of our native Southern Resident Orcas and give them the voice that they have never had in our state.
