On March 16, at 7 pm activist, author and Nobel Peace Prize nominee Fr. John Dear spoke at University Temple United Methodist Church. John delved deeply into nonviolence from the perspective of someone who has practiced it for most of his life.  

John Dear is an internationally known voice for peace and nonviolence. He is a peacemaker, organizer, and author. He’s been involved in nonviolent campaigns for more than three decades; been arrested 75+ times in acts of civil disobedience against war and injustice; and spent nearly a year of his life in jail as a result. He was nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize by Archbishop Desmond Tutu. John Dear suggests that the life of nonviolence requires three simultaneous attributes: being nonviolent toward ourselves; being nonviolent to all people, all creatures, and all creation; and joining the global grassroots movement of nonviolence.
