Grand Jury Resisters: Maddy Pfeiffer released

Matthew (Maddy) Pfeiffer was released on April 11 after  more than 3 months at SeaTac Detention Center for his refusal to talk to the Grand Jury. Matt Duran & Katherine (KteeO) Olejnik were released on February 28 after being held for five months, two months of that in solitary.

The Assistant US Attorney filed for Maddy’s release yesterday and they were released just hours after! They are settling in to life on the outside again. Seeing loved ones and family!

This investigation is not over. All 3 resisters who were incarcerated still need support as prison is a very traumatic experience. Please continue to support them and everyone, now and in the future, defies the grand jury, the judge, and the federal system who would force people to testify.

Duran & Olejnik’s attorneys had successfully argued that their clients’ confinement was punitive. Under the law, imprisonment for civil contempt is not supposed to punish witness but coerce them into testifying.

Grand juries have been used to intimidate political activists and stifle dissent. On July 25, the FBI raided homes in Portland, Olympia, & Seattle, seized computers, black clothing, and “anarchist literature,” and served grand jury subpoenas on several activists.
