The 2024 election was stolen by means of voter suppression. There was a mass of voter challenges by Republican-trained “vigilantes” in a number of states where the voting laws had been changed so ordinary citizens could challenge voters. The challenges were concentrated in districts with a majority of voters-of-color.

Remember Bush v. Gore in 2000. Yes, the Supreme Court stopped the counting and gave a victory to Bush, but that was after his brother Jeb had knocked thousands of black voters off the rolls.  So, voter suppression is a tried and true GOP tactic. It was also one of the mainstays of Jim Crow. Palast says 4,776,706 voters were purged from voter rolls in the 2024 election. Also, 2,121,000 mail-in ballots were disqualified due to minor clerical errors.

The Brennan Center for Justice reported on September 26, 2024 that at least 30 states passed 78 restrictive laws so voters will face obstacles to voting “that they have never encountered in a presidential election before”  The tactics include shuttering voter drop boxes in Black-majority cities to permitting non-government “vote fraud vigilantes” (Palast’s term) to challenge thousands of voters.

We need a real, affirmative right to vote established by an amendment to the Constitution.

Here are more key numbers, according to Palast:
— By August of 2024, for the first time since 1946, self-proclaimed “vigilante” voter-fraud hunters challenged the rights of 317,886 voters. The NAACP of Georgia estimates that by Election Day, the challenges exceeded 200,000 in Georgia alone.
— At least 585,000 ballots cast in-precinct were also disqualified.
— 1,216,000 “provisional” ballots were rejected, not counted.
— 3.24 million new registrations were rejected or not entered on the rolls in time to vote.

I assume the ordinary citizens and Republican officials who helped in this voter suppression felt justified because they thought that the election of 2020 had been stolen. Trump’s big lie worked.
